What to Expect?

New to counselling? Nervous about meeting a therapist?

You are not alone. Here is what you can expect.

Most children and youth are anxious to talk to a counsellor for the first time. Parents/caregivers and young adults may also feel apprehensive to share their stories and be vulnerable about their struggles.  Karen creates a welcoming, warm, safe, and non-judgemental space for individuals to explore their feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

Catering to the specific needs of an individual, Karen uses evidence-based therapies that have been shown to be most effective in treating common mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and attachment-based concerns.  Karen works collaboratively with the client and families to determine what treatment strategy is the best fit.  Karen may use therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Trauma Informed CBT, Exposure and Repose Prevention (ERP), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Sand Tray Therapy.  Her breadth of knowledge fosters resilience and strengthens individuals and their relationships.

Karen practices from a trauma-informed and social justice, anti-oppressive lens.

Welcome to Karen's office. A caring, safe, warm, and supportive space awaits you.
